Nine Essential Items for the Beach

Whether you’re at home or travelling the world, we’re pretty certain that the whole summer won’t pass you by without at least one day on the beach.

However, if you’re not a natural beach bunny you don’t want to get caught short, on the beach, in the heat, when it’s a long way back home.

We have put together a list of some of our essential beach items…

1. Waterproof Phone Pouch

Obviously you don’t want to leave your phone at home, so you need to make sure that it’s going to be safe on the beach. The best way to do this is a waterproof pouch, which will protect it from water and sand. These watertight bags can be worn around your neck so that you always know where your phone is. Our pouches are also touchscreen compatible making them perfect for wet and sandy hands.

2. Book

There’s nothing like lying on a deserted beach and losing yourself in a book. Just remember to take one with you! If you’re going on a long trip, e-readers are ideal and can also be protected in a waterproof pouch.

3. Sun Cream

Even if you want to leave the beach with a bit of a sun tan, sun cream is still a must for any trip to the beach. By protecting your skin properly, you will be able to enjoy the outdoors without having to deal with burnt skin when you get home.

4. Flip Flops

Flip flops are great for protecting your feet on hard pebble beaches and equally on hot sand beaches. Easy to slip on or off and fit in your bag, a good pair of flip flops or sandals is invaluable. Just remember where you left them on the waters edge!

5. Microfibre Towel

Ideal for travelling, microfibre towels are compact and lightweight allowing you more space in your bag for other items. Despite their compact design they can absorb a high amount of water and also dry very quickly. Use it to lie on and you’ve saved yourself even more bag space.

6. Sunglasses

Forgetting your sunglasses at the beach can be a nightmare. With a large stretch of sand and the sea ahead of you, the sun has plenty of surfaces to reflect off. Protect your eyes with a decent pair of sunglasses. A hard case is also a good idea so you don’t squash or scratch them.

7. Insect Repellent

In hot countries, lying on the beach is not always as relaxing as you would hope. Sandflies, midges or no-see-ums, as they are often known, can often be found and are big fans of humans. This is why insect repellent is always handy to keep in your bag. Make sure you are fully covered with repellent or you could end up covered in sandfly bites by the time you get home.

8. Travel Pillow

Need something to rest your head on while you sunbathe? An inflatable travel pillow is ideal for the beach, especially if you want to read. The ability to inflate and deflate it is great for when you are on the move and have limited space. If you have a neck pillow for travelling this is also ideal for beach use.

9. Water

A beach essential. Regularly drinking water can help you avoid heat exhaustion and heatstroke, so make sure you have plenty for the duration of your day. If you fancy a walk on the beach, then a water bottle holder will leave your hands free for all that photo taking!
